Concrete core drilling can be challenging if you are doing it for the first time. However, as long as you have the right tools and employ the right drilling techniques, the task shouldn't be as intimidating. Therefore, for an efficient concrete core drilling exercise, here are some tips to help you.

Use the Correct Amount of Water

The amount of water you use will determine how effective and successful your concrete core drilling exercise will be. Typically, you may think that the more water you use, the better the drilling. This may not always be true. When drilling, water will help create a concrete slurry by facilitating the mixing of dust and other debris. The slurry is what helps the drill bits cut or grind through the concrete. It does so by keeping the drill bits cool and by ensuring that the components in the slurry are in contact with the drill bits.

Therefore, just enough water is required. Too much of it will wash away the dust, which means you are likely to end up with no slurry at all. This means that your drilling may not be as effective. Do you know how heavily-creamed coffee looks like? That is how the slurry should look like, so for this reason, add water until your slurry achieves that look.

Choosing the Anchor and Vacuum Bases Carefully

The anchor base and the vacuum base are also very important during core drilling. When anchoring, the best way to do so in order to achieve effective results is to secure your drill rig using physical anchors that are rated for drilling. Any other physical anchor may not work perfectly. In addition, for optimum results, you will need to make sure that the drill rig is level by simply adjusting.

If applicable, a vacuum base can also help achieve excellent results but only when the vacuum gasket is functioning properly and the surface you are drilling is smooth.

Know the Amount of Power You Need For the Job

Most of the core drills and saws are electrically-powered. For this reason, it's important to monitor the amount of power you are using so that you don't exceed the maximum amperage required. One great way to do this is by using an amp metre. Exceeding the maximum power recommended can lead to overheating or premature wearing of the internal parts of your electric drill motor, leading to reduced productivity and efficiency.
